Balasts

Balasts ir materiāls, ko ievieto kuģa kravas telpā, lai to pietiekami iegremdētu un nodrošinātu vajadzīgo stabilitāti. Šo terminu lieto arī saistībā ar smiltīm, ko ņem līdzi gaisa balonā, lai, tās pakāpeniski izmetot, padarītu balonu vieglāku un paceltos augstāk.

Karīna Hāna (Karin Hahn) ir grafiskā dizainere, kuru aizrauj piktogrammas, zīmes un raksti, ko var redzēt gan viņas dizaina darbos, gan gleznās. Krāsas un priekšmeti tiek samazināti līdz tie līdzinās fotonegatīviem vai ielu mākslā izmantotajiem trafaretiem. Izstāde „balasts" ir viņas septītā un pagaidām pēdējā izstāde Baltijas valstīs, jo Karīna atgriežas savā mītnes zemē Vācijā.

Tajā ir iekļauti darbi, kas radušies pēdējos četros gados, dzīvojot un strādājot Rīgā.

Karīnas gleznas atspoguļo mirkļa iespaidus, situācijas un laiku, kas pavadīts kopā ar draugiem šajos četros gados. Līdzīgi kā balasts šie mirkļi nodrošinājuši viņai stabilitāti, noturējuši vietā, dzīvojot Latvijā un atmiņu veidā pavadīs viņu atpakaļceļā uz Vāciju.

No otras puses šo balastu ik pa laikam var pa druskai izmest, lai paceltos augstākā līmenī.

Šī izstāde ir veltījums viņas draugiem, Rīgai un Latvijai.

BALLAST (O. Swed. barlast, perhaps from bar, bare or mere, and last, load)

Ballast describes a material placed in the hold of a ship in order to immerse her sufficiently to give adequate stability. The term is also applied to sand which a balloonist takes up with him, in order that, by throwing portions of it out of the car from time to time, he may lighten his balloon when he desires to rise to a higher level.

KARIN HAHN is a graphic designer, with a big love for pictograms, signs and patterns. This is seen in both, her work as a designer and in her paintings. Objects and colours are reduced until they remind of photo negatives or stencils for street art.

The exhibition "balasts" is her seventh and for now her last exhibiton in the Baltics, as she will return to her home country, Germany. It displays the work of the last 4 years, living and working in Riga, Latvia. Her Paintings contain impressions, situations and quality time spend with friends undergone in those same last 4 years.

Like ballast these moments gave her a stability, hold her in place, while living in Latvia and the memory will accompany her on the way back to Germany. On the other hand the ballast might as well be thrown away, in small portions though, to to rise to a higher level.
